There are three siblings at BU Paws who were originally named Maya. Born to a mother dog who lives on North Campus, they were brought to the sanctuary as puppies. They were all named Maya with additional descriptions of physical attributes for identification purposes, so we have Maya Big Head, Maya Broken Leg. The third Maya was renamed Cemil by his Foster Family, a privilege of joining the program. Maya Ayağı Kırık means "Maya Broken Leg". She suffered a bad break that required metal rods to be installed. Her leg has healed, she can walk and jump, but she is careful about it and does not share a kennel with another dog. The experience has made her cautious about everything. She runs with other dogs during her free hours, but she keeps her distance from humans. If you approach her when she is inside her kennel, she looks very worried and moves to the opposite side. Outside her kennel, she barks from a safe distance at even the most regular volunteers, she's just not quite sure why they are there. She will run behind the kennels and peek around the corner because she's curious about what you are doing, but runs away as soon as you meet her gaze. She is very timid and it will take some time to win her trust. She needs volunteers with patience and understanding to build her confidence.
