Tekgöz means "One Eye". He is beautiful with a cloudy, grey coat and only has one eye. Humans can distinguish red, blue, green and yellow light, while dogs can distinguish blue and yellow, but not red and green. They have wider peripheral vision than humans do, but their binocular vision and depth perception is different due to the placement of their eyes. Dogs rely on scent and sound primarily for sensory detection, so having only one good eye is not a big problem, but it may, in part, explain Tekgöz's cautious nature. To compensate, he is attuned to other clues for judging the world around him and, in this way, it enables him to sense more. Tekgöz lives happily with a group of dogs that do not crave human attention. They do, however, love their afternoon walk with Hasan Abi, whose calm, gentle presence they trust and respect. They will walk up the hill and sit in the woods with him, accepting treats from his hand. This is a nice time for volunteers to observe and become familiar them. Tekgöz will approach people for affection once he senses that they are safe and can be trusted. It takes a little time to earn his confidence, an honor that is well worth the effort.
